Visiting the Botanical Garden

Angel Trumpets, 12 x 12
.
On Thursday our Plein Air Austin group went to Zilker Gardens, a botanical garden in Austin that is full of beautiful specimen plants. Right now is a good time to see color and lots of blossoms. This plant was my favorite - the fancy name is Datura, but "Angel Trumpets" is much more descriptive. (PS - they are beautiful, but highly poisonous!)

Laurel
I just really love the paintings you have been doing. I am finally home after yet another hurricane.

Hi Laurel,

I grew these dangerous beauties in
my garden one year. The next year
I got a dog, and was terrified the puppy might chew on any part of the plant -- the spiky seed pods are
apparently the most dangerous part.

Your painting takes these gorgeous
flowers to a whole new level. I love
the orange background.

You are my "paint" hero, I am hoping to absorb some good vibes from you by osmosis as you seem to embody the paint style I have been trying to develop.

Thank you all for your comments - it's so fun to hear from other people "out there"... and Carol, What an honor. Thank you for coming over for some vibes. Please leave some of yours for me; we can learn from each other!

P.S. We have these things in our yard, too, but our dogs and cats never have been interested, fortunately.
